History

In the year 1948, a year after India gained its Independence, Mr. Vinayak Ramchandra Paranjape set the foundation of our company 'Nichrome Metal Works'. Initially the company was engaged in the production of wires that are required for the heating elements. Following is a synopsis of the story of our growth and success:

1948 to 1952	In the early years our company manufactured varied products like Nichrome wires, Window Grills, Rolling shutters, Aluminum ornamental castings etc.
1953 to 1960	After gaining a considerable position in the market, the company gradually expanded its horizons by taking over various structural contracts like Keymore ACC plant expansion, Overhead Tanks at HLL Pimpri, Petrol Tanks for oil depot, etc.
1961	This was the year when the company faced one of the worst natural calamities. The Panshet dam situated on the outskirts of Pune burst resulting into massive flood in Mutha River. The company being situated at the banks of the river was flooded completely. Most of its capital resources were washed away along with the building itself. But, with the leadership of Mr. V.R.Paranjape, a sincere and dexterous team and the support of the business associates, Nichrome came out of this disaster like a Phoenix.
1961 to 1974	This has been the golden era of contracting for the company. Nichrome successfully completed various prestigious contracting projects. This era also witnessed the sad demise of the founder of Nichrome, Mr. V.R.Paranjape. After the demise of Mr.Paranjape, an enterprising youth came forward to successfully shoulder the responsibility of the company. Mr. S.V.Joshi's vision and his thirst for innovation, took the company to a new direction and then came the era of Equipment Manufacturing.
1975 to 1976	The first indigenous Hank Yarn Mercerizing Machine was developed. The first step into a new world of automatic machine manufacturing gave us a new confidence and courage to experiment and explore. This was the time when white revolution came our way. Taking into consideration the limitations of packing, storage and transport of milk bottles, as well as their recycling and huge requirement of fresh water for sterilization of bottles, the Government initially decided to import the pouching machines. But later an appeal was made to the Indian Industrialists to come forward. Mr. P.B.Paranjape, an innovative engineer and one of the partners of the company accepted the challenge. He put in his technical excellence and all the hard work along with his design and production team and the first milk-pouching machine, which was later named "FILPACK", was produced.
1977 to 1982	The first Filpack machine was commissioned at Kurla Dairy, Mumbai.  The technology of the Clutch-Break mechanism, which was the key of the FFS machine, was stabilized along with the design of two models of the Filpack machine. These machinery were successfully commissioned at various dairies all over India.
1983	In this year, our Solid packing machine was introduced. The first FFS machine called "AUTOWRAP" meant for powder packing, was developed. Due to precision weighing ability of this equipment, it was widely accepted by the market, specially in the tea sector.
1984 to 1990	Nichrome joined hands with Voltas for gaining marketing expertise. Integrated packaging system- Material Handling Peripherals was developed for Procter & Gamble Group. Automatic jar filling line, complete with tagger sealing, cap screwing and date coding mechanism was developed for 'Anickspray' milk powder for Procter & Gamble. Automatic high speed Inhaler assembly line was also manufactured for P&G Group.
1991 to 1995	A series of Wing machines was developed for the small and dedicated quantities. The biggest export order from Russia for a record US $ 1.5 millions for 39 machines was received.
1995 to 1998	Tetrapak chose Nichrome as a joint venture partner and invested in the company . The liquid filling machines based on Nichrome’s liquid filling technology were exported to 30 countries.
1999	Nichrome buys back its share and export rights and company was renamed as Nichrome India Ltd. The Joshi family buys out the other partner family (Paranjape). Mr Harish Joshi joins the management and board of the company.
2000 to 2004	Export markets of Africa, SAARC countries, Middle East were established which helped company tide over the recession in Indian market. Company adopted the product segment strategy and focused on few key technologies. New high speed solid machines like multitrack, stickpack, stand up pouch development were completed. Development of Next generation Autowrap machines– called Excel range was initiated. Company strengthened its vendor network, reduced cycle times and developed ability to scale up production. Company adopted the MRP- software based procurement system, state of the art 3-D modeling design software. Aseptic Packing technology development programme was launched with international experts.
2004 to 2008	Company achieved a sustained growth of 30%+ for 4 consecutive years. Path-breaking development– Nichrome Aseptic Pouch Packing System for long shelf life milk and juices was completely developed. First installation of Aseptic Pouch Packing System at Thorat Dairy Sangamner.

Management

It is the top management of an organization that sets the direction of its operations, decides upon the core values to be followed and influences its internal environment. Our management is a group of visionaries who not only manage people but lead them to the unknown and unthinkable heights.

Mr. S.V.Joshi (Chairman)

Under the exemplary guidance and support of Mr. S. V. Joshi, we have successfully reached to the top of the packaging industry. He has been the president of Indo American Chamber of Commerce- Pune Chapter, and the Chairman of Quality Circle– Pune Chapter. He is actively engaged in the work of social organizations like the Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust and the Swa-Roop Vardhini. Also, he is the current President of the Old Scout Association.

Mr. Harish. P. Joshi (Managing Director)

The direction of Mr. Harish P. Joshi has always led us to the successful achievement of our goals and objectives.  He is a Mechanical Engineer from College of Engineering, Pune and has done his General Management Education Programme from IIM, Ahmedabad.

Mr. Vaibhav Modak (President Marketing)

We own the immense popularity of our products and services to the sincere efforts of our Marketing Head, Mr. Vaibhav Modak. He is a Mechanical Engineer from C.O.E.P with a degree in Business Management and post graduation in International Trade from IIFT, Delhi.

Mr. Nitin Mane (President-Operations)

Mr. Nitin Mane has set strong methodologies and implemented effective techniques that result into flawless operations. He is a graduate in mechanical engineer with post graduate diploma in business management and has 20 year's of vast experience in engineering & process industries.
